Rugby Rivalry Heats Up as Fiji Corrections Challenge Police in Cakobau Bowl Anniversary Clash

Fiji Rugby Showdown: Corrections vs Police in 150th Anniversary Clash

The Fiji Corrections Service is gearing up to face off against the Fiji Police in the eagerly awaited second edition of the ANC Cakobau Bowl on October 31. This rugby match, which was officially launched at the Fiji Corrections Service coffee shop in Korovou, highlights the historical ties between the two organizations that date back to the 1800s when they were first established under police command.

Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service, Sevuloni Naucukidi, reflected on the deep-rooted heritage of both services while acknowledging last year’s competitive defeat to the Police Force, where the final score was 45-31 at the Nasova grounds. However, Naucukidi expressed strong optimism for this year’s match, stating, “We are better prepared, and we hope to give you the best preparation before the Sukuna Bowl.”

The acting head of the Police Force, Aporosa Lutunauga, embraced the upcoming challenge, emphasizing the unity of purpose shared between the two services within Fiji’s legal framework. He highlighted the match as a demonstration of their joint commitment to community welfare and public safety. “Despite being on different fields, we have one purpose: to look after the people of Fiji,” he asserted, accepting the challenge with enthusiasm.

This rugby showdown is part of a broader celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the Fiji Corrections Service, which encompasses various activities from October 26 to 31. More than just a contest, the match symbolizes a celebration of service to the nation and the camaraderie between these two vital organizations. As both teams prepare for what promises to be an exhilarating encounter, the event fosters community spirit and pride, reinforcing their commitment to uphold the legacy of service and integrity in Fiji.
