The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is undergoing a significant transformation aimed at enhancing its operations to meet Tier One standards. This initiative underscores the FRU’s dedication to modernize both its on-field performance and organizational strategies to better compete internationally.
To facilitate this substantial upgrade, the FRU is searching for qualified individuals to strengthen its capabilities. A strategic plan has been established, aligning with World Rugby’s criteria and the expectations of Tier One nations and SANZAAR. This alignment positions the organization to be well-prepared for upcoming competitions.
Koli Sewabu, the FRU chief executive, highlighted the necessity of aligning with global standards, stating, “That plan is aligned with World Rugby, Tier One nations, SANZAAR, aligned with the teams that we are going to compete against in the next couple of months. There is a lot of work to be done for that; it’s also about getting the right people on board.” He indicated that announcements regarding new appointments would be forthcoming, which will enhance the organization’s skill set.
Additionally, John Sanday, the chairman of the FRU Board, announced that a new executive team will be introduced next week. This initiative is part of a strategic overhaul as the FRU gears up for what Sanday describes as “the biggest year in rugby history next year and in the next 10 years.” He stressed the importance of getting this transition right to ensure procedural integrity and legitimacy.
In other developments, Sanday mentioned that the recruitment of a new chief financial officer has concluded, alongside the appointment of an acting CEO, with further details about these roles to be shared soon. The FRU’s proactive approach and open communication reflect a positive trajectory for Fiji Rugby, underlining its commitment to excellence and readiness for future challenges.
