Fiji Rugby Union is actively enhancing safety and inclusivity measures within the sport with the introduction of new safeguarding and workplace policies designed to protect players and staff throughout the organization. This initiative is part of Fiji Rugby’s larger commitment to fostering respect, equality, and the overall welfare of everyone involved in the game.

In a recent board meeting, members were educated on the established Workplace Harassment, Gender-Based Violence, and Safeguarding Policies, which received official adoption last year. Following this, an induction session was held for staff and management at Rugby House, ensuring that everyone is well-versed in the guidelines. Notably, key personnel have also received additional training to act as focal points responsible for implementing and monitoring these vital policies.

The long-term aim is for Fiji Rugby to ensure these policies are not only fully understood within the organization but also effectively extended into the broader rugby community. Support from safeguarding and participation professionals, including Tevita Seruilumi, consultant Tessa Walsh, and Tirahni Uluinakauvadra, underscores the initiative’s robustness.

Fiji Rugby emphasizes that bolstering these systems marks a significant progress towards creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all players and staff within the sport. This initiative reflects a global movement within rugby to prioritize safeguarding and cultivate a setting where every individual can prosper both on and off the field. The commitment to these principles presents an optimistic outlook for the future of rugby in Fiji, fostering a culture where everyone is valued and protected.
