Renowned refereeing mentor and manager Patrick Gock, a respected figure in rugby in Fiji, passed away last Saturday. His family announced the heartbreaking news, which shocked the rugby community, particularly the Nadi Rugby Referees Association, with which he had close ties.
The Nadi Rugby Referees Association shared a tribute on Facebook, expressing their deep sorrow over Gock’s passing and highlighting the vital role he played in the development of its members. They stated, “Many of us would not be where we are today without his guidance, his honest feedback, and his belief in our potential.” Gock was known for his exceptional ability to see potential in others and helped bring out the best in those he mentored.
Gock was an alumnus of St John’s College in Cawaci, where he studied from 1980 to 1983. He also served as the former referees manager of the Fiji Rugby Union, during which he dedicated his efforts to expanding the sport across the country.
