Former Fiji rugby star Joeli Veitayaki has sadly passed away in New Zealand, leaving a profound sense of loss within the rugby community. Originating from Yaroi Village on Matuku, he was affectionately remembered by family as a legend who exemplified love and humility.

He later joined the St. John’s-Marist Club and subsequently represented Suva as part of the Police team. In addition to his international achievements, Veitayaki enjoyed significant playing time in New Zealand after relocating there in 1991. He played for King Country and Northland in provincial rugby and participated in Super Rugby with the Chiefs and the Blues. He wrapped up his professional playing career at Ulster in Ireland in 2003.
