Rugby enthusiasts are in for a thrilling experience as provincial rugby excitement reaches its peak with finals scheduled for next Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. The finalists in the Skipper senior men’s, under-20, and Subrails Marama Cup competitions have secured their spots after fierce semi-final battles held yesterday.
In the senior men’s category, Naitasiri will face Malolo in the final. Naitasiri fought hard to defeat Tailevu with a tight score of 31-26, while Malolo secured their place by overcoming Nadi 31-19. This matchup will not only pit the highlanders against the maritime challenge but will also serve as a full-circle reunion for both teams, as they previously clashed in August, where Naitasiri prevailed 39-16.
As they prepare for the final, Naitasiri is keen to add another trophy to their accolades after successfully defending the Inkk Farebrother Trophy this month. Malolo, on the other hand, represents the hopes of the Western Division and marks their first Skipper Cup final appearance since being promoted from the Vanua Cup last year.
In the Marama Cup final, Namosi will take on Suva. Namosi, featuring several veteran Fijiana representatives, won against Nasinu 30-21, while Suva edged out Kadavu 36-31 with a decisive try from Younis Bese. This final promises to showcase agility, strength, and significant experience from both sides.
Additionally, the Skipper Cup U20 competition will see Naitasiri facing off against Nadi, creating a parallel narrative to the senior finals. Naitasiri reached this stage after a hard-fought extra-time victory over Suva, while Nadi maintained a steady game to defeat Ba 25-13.
The anticipation surrounding these finals reflects the vibrant rugby culture in Fiji, with fans eagerly looking forward to the showdown at the HFC Bank Stadium. With a season marked by competitive spirit and community support, the coming matches are set to highlight the incredible talent within Fiji’s rugby landscape.
