Fiji Rugby Union CEO Koli Sewabu has opted not to provide further details regarding a notable financial loss of over $21,000 sustained during the recent Pacific Nations Cup clash between the Flying Fijians and Tonga. This loss became apparent following the release of a payment reconciliation document from the Fiji Sports Council pertaining to the Skipper Cup final, which was acquired by Times Sport.

When questioned about the circumstances surrounding the financial downturn, Sewabu refrained from elaborating, simply stating, “No further comments.” However, he acknowledged that various issues were raised and considered during the recent General Assembly attended by member unions.

Currently, the FRU is undergoing a review as preparations are underway for initial rounds of consultations set for January, although the specific date remains undecided. Sewabu has voiced a strong intention to redirect attention toward future objectives, remarking, “Time to move on and focus on 2026.”

Despite these financial hurdles, there is a prevailing sense of optimism among the leadership of the FRU, which underscores their commitment to recovery and continuous improvement in the forthcoming years. This proactive approach is essential as the organization aims to enhance its financial stability and overall performance on and off the field, reflecting a hopeful outlook for Fiji rugby.
