The Fiji Rugby Union has appointed Pita Tutuvula Waqanivalu as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective from February 2026. This strategic move comes as part of the organization’s efforts to strengthen its financial management and operational capacity off the field, crucial for rugby’s growth in Fiji.

Waqanivalu brings extensive experience to the role, boasting over a decade of leadership in both public and private sectors. He has established a robust reputation in financial management, governance, and strategic planning. His career began at the Bank of the South Pacific, followed by a significant tenure of six and a half years with international accounting firm Ernst & Young.

His international exposure is wide-ranging, encompassing work across various countries, including Jamaica, Singapore, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Tonga, and Samoa, equipping him with a diverse perspective on global financial practices.

In his forthcoming role, Waqanivalu will be responsible for overseeing Fiji Rugby’s financial operations, enhancing governance frameworks, and fostering sustainable growth to support the development of rugby at all levels in the nation. He expressed enthusiasm about this new chapter, stating, “I am honored to join Fiji Rugby at such an exciting time for the sport in our nation. I look forward to using my experience to foster sustainable growth that supports rugby across Fiji.”

Fiji Rugby CEO Koli Sewabu emphasized that Waqanivalu’s appointment underscores the organization’s commitment to strong financial governance and strategic planning. He believes that Waqanivalu’s leadership will be pivotal in expanding rugby’s reach within Fiji and on the global stage, ensuring a promising future for the sport in the region.
