The government has reported notable advancements in the development projects within Keiyasi and Seaqaqa townships, despite some delays. These initiatives are designed to transform rural areas into vibrant economic hubs. During a parliamentary session, Housing and Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa shared key updates on the Keiyasi project located in Nadroga, which encompasses 9.3 hectares of iTaukei land and is backed by a projected investment of $10.8 million.
The infrastructure plan for Keiyasi includes the creation of 27 commercial lots, a civic center, a market, a bus and carrier stand, two industrial sites, a service station, and a designated area for the National Fire Authority. Civil works commenced in February 2024 and are expected to conclude by the end of 2026, with $2.2 million already utilized and an additional $1.6 million earmarked for this financial year.
In Seaqaqa, located in Macuata, the official town boundaries have been established, and construction is underway on a market and bus stand, essential components for anchoring this new township. The initial phases, including excavation, clearing, leveling, and foundation work, are progressing effectively. The Ministry has allocated $1.7 million for continuation of these projects this year, with an expected completion date in April next year.
Minister Nalumisa underlined that these developments strive to empower landowners and local communities while creating jobs and enhancing access to vital services. He highlighted the significance of these projects in bolstering local economies and improving service delivery, fostering optimism for sustainable growth in the region. As these projects move forward, they symbolize a hopeful advancement in infrastructure and community services in Fiji’s rural areas.
