Heavy rainfall has resulted in significant surface flooding across various major roads, creating hazardous travel conditions and prompting authorities to issue precautionary advisories. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution while navigating these affected areas.
Currently, Kings Road at Vesida has been closed due to severe flooding, with traffic being redirected to Wainivula Road under a traffic management plan. Additional regions impacted by flooding include Daniva Roundabout, Nasole Junction, Cutter Drive, Cunningham Road, and the stretch from Omkar Junction to Nasinu Junction. Furthermore, Jerusalem Road also reported flooding, with Vidal Avenue and Fletcher Road limited to four-wheel-drive vehicles only.
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is actively monitoring the situation and has dispatched teams to address emergencies such as downed trees along Grantham Road. Drivers are advised to adhere to all traffic signs and diversions, drive at reduced speeds, and remain vigilant, especially in low-visibility conditions.
In light of the severe weather, it is crucial for the community to stay informed and prepared. The FRA’s ongoing updates and proactive measures underline their commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining road infrastructure. As the community comes together to navigate these challenges, there is hope that conditions will improve soon, and normalcy will be restored on the roads.
