Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, has set a bold strategic direction for Fiji Rice Pte Limited, focusing on improving commercial performance, engaging the youth, and securing long-term food sustainability.

During his recent visit to the Dreketi Mill, Singh met with the board, chief executive officer, management, and staff to assess the company’s operations and explore its future potential. The discussions covered important topics such as production trends, financial performance, and ongoing infrastructure enhancements aimed at expansion.

Singh emphasized the significance of Fiji Rice as a national asset, detailing its broader responsibilities beyond agribusiness. He noted the company’s crucial role in supporting local farmers, strengthening food security, and making meaningful contributions to the agricultural sector.

The Minister stressed the need for Fiji Rice, as a public enterprise, to boost productivity, increase revenue, and improve commercial discipline, while progressively reducing its reliance on government support. Although he reiterated the government’s commitment to continual assistance, he insisted that this support must come with accountability, measurable results, and effective implementation.

With a hopeful perspective, Singh conveyed his belief that strategic reforms and strong leadership can guide the company toward greater financial independence, thereby ensuring it continues to meet the needs of the nation effectively. These developments signal a positive step toward enhancing the role of agriculture in Fiji’s economy and securing a sustainable future.
