Dr. Sivendra Michael, the Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, addressed delegates, highlighting the necessity of clearly mapping the intersections between the Rio Conventions and various Multilateral Environmental Agreements within national and international policymaking.
He noted that Fiji has consistently advocated for this approach during discussions under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), where it co-sponsored a resolution aimed at promoting integrated implementation of environmental agreements. Dr. Michael referenced Fiji’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap, which proposes targeted strategies that combine climate, nature, and land objectives using innovative financing tools and collaborative partnerships, ensuring that commitments result in tangible, measurable outcomes.
