The Fiji Primary Schools Football Association has kicked off the 48th Fiji Primary Schools Inter-District Championship (IDC) with an official launch on Wednesday, October 24, 2025, at the Fiji Football Association headquarters in Vatuwaqa. This year’s championship, set for October 27 to 31 at Kings Charles Park in Nadi, marks a significant occasion as it honors the FPSFA’s Golden Jubilee, celebrating half a century of commitment to grassroots football development.
Established in 1975, the FPSFA has played a pivotal role in discovering and nurturing top football talents in Fiji. This year’s IDC is expected to be the largest in the tournament’s history, featuring 21 boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams from four zones across the nation. During the launch, Avinesh Raj, a member of the association’s executive, expressed pride in this milestone, stating, “This year is a special celebration, our Golden Jubilee, a testament to fifty years of passion, perseverance, and purpose in developing football from the grassroots.”
Highlighting the significance of grassroots football, Fiji FA’s CEO Mohammed Yusuf reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to cultivating young athletes. He remarked, “Every talent needs a chance, every talent needs exposure, and every talent deserves to be developed. The primary school IDC remains a vital platform for nurturing Fiji’s future football stars.”
In support of this championship, the Fiji Football Association has allocated $20,000, which includes a $15,000 development grant as well as an additional $5,000 from the Youth Development Fund specifically aimed at enhancing the girls’ competition. The association has expressed gratitude to its sponsors for their continuous support and efforts in promoting sports among the youth.
As excitement builds ahead of the event, the 48th IDC not only stands as a celebration of Fiji’s rich football heritage but also highlights a bright future for young athletes. With a strong commitment from governing bodies and sponsors, the pathway looks promising for aspiring football stars in Fiji, ensuring that the passion for the sport continues to thrive in the community.
