The President of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, recently visited two significant landmarks in the United Arab Emirates: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Wahat Al Karama, both located in Abu Dhabi, on November 4, 2025. This visit underscores the strengthening ties between Fiji and the UAE, reflecting shared values of peace and unity.
During his exploration of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, President Lalabalavu learned about its intricate architectural design and cultural essence, which exemplifies harmony and inclusion. Constructed from 1994 to 2007, the mosque features 82 domes, over 1,000 columns, stunning chandeliers adorned with 24-carat gold, and boasts the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet. The President took the time to honor the enduring legacy of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose vision continues to inspire peace globally.
Following this, President Lalabalavu laid a wreath at Wahat Al Karama, symbolizing respect for the UAE’s fallen heroes. This site, showcasing 31 aluminum-clad tablets, represents unity between the UAE’s leadership, its citizens, and the armed forces. During his visit, he was received by His Highness Zayed Bin Mohamed, son of the current UAE President.
In his remarks at the memorial, President Lalabalavu expressed admiration for the UAE’s commitment to interfaith dialogue and cultural understanding.
