Fiji's Suva and Lautoka Brace for 61 Ship Visits in December

Fiji Ports Brace for 61 Ship Visits in December at Suva and Lautoka

In December, Fiji is set to receive a total of 61 ship visits at its two primary ports, Suva and Lautoka, as outlined in the latest vessel schedule from Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The Port of Suva is expected to host 35 of these arrivals, while Lautoka will accommodate 25.

The lineup for the Port of Suva is particularly impressive, featuring 27 container ships, three oil tankers, two cruise liners, two car carriers, and two naval ships. Among the notable vessels arriving this month are the cruise liners MS Riviera and MS Regatta. Specifically, MS Riviera will arrive in Lautoka on December 16 before moving on to Suva on December 17. This Oceania-class cruise ship has a gross tonnage of 66,084 and can carry up to 1,250 passengers in its 625 staterooms. The MS Regatta, part of the R-class fleet owned by Oceania Cruises, is also highlighted in this December schedule.

At Lautoka’s port, the arrivals are similarly noteworthy, with plans to welcome 22 container ships, one cable ship, and two cruise liners. A key addition is the cable-laying ship CS Reliance, which measures 140 meters and is scheduled to dock on December 25.

Moreover, two Japanese vessels, Yushin Maru 2 and Yushin Maru 3, are confirmed to arrive in Suva on December 19. In November, Fiji experienced a bustling maritime month, hosting 70 ship visits across both ports, with Suva receiving approximately 40 of these arrivals. This reinforces the crucial role that Fiji’s ports play in maritime commerce and tourism.

The increase in maritime activity highlights the importance of Fiji’s ports in bolstering trade and attracting cruise tourism, further enhancing the nation’s economic landscape as it continues to appeal to international visitors. The December arrivals promise to contribute significantly to the vibrancy of Fiji’s maritime and tourism sectors, paving the way for continued economic growth and engagement with the global community.
