Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, has called on frontline supervisors to shift their focus away from concerns over ranks and promotions and re-emphasize the importance of effective policing and leadership. His remarks came during the Frontline Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Empowerment Workshop at the Fiji Police Academy, which took place yesterday morning.

Addressing the 21 officers in attendance, ACP Vusonilawe underscored the significant responsibilities that come with their roles as frontline supervisors. He stated, “You are the supervisors of those doing the work on the front line. You should know your roles and responsibilities.” He expressed a need for the police service to improve its standards and urged the supervisors to prioritize quality in service delivery.

ACP Vusonilawe strongly discouraged the prevailing trend of pursuing promotions for their own sake. He challenged the officers to concentrate on the fundamentals of their roles. “Enough doing the work for the sake of just doing it. Enough of running after the ranks and promotions. Do your work the right way first and promotions will find their way to you,” he emphasized.

The Assistant Commissioner highlighted that the caliber of leadership displayed at the supervisory level has a direct impact on the quality of service provided to the public. “Provide quality leadership to your teams so they can provide quality service to members of the community,” he added.

This three-day workshop, designed to enhance the leadership and supervisory capabilities of non-commissioned officers, will conclude on Wednesday. Through such initiatives, the Fiji Police aims to bolster its service quality and reinforce the integral role of leadership in law enforcement.
