Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has emphasized the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to conducting a thorough, objective, and evidence-based investigation into the leaked Viber messages making rounds on social media. These messages allegedly involve conversations between senior officers and individuals linked to drug-related activities, generating considerable public interest and scrutiny.
Commissioner Tudravu pointed out that the claims contained within these messages are yet to be verified. In light of new accusations involving a senior officer, he stressed the importance of authenticating the source, context, and accuracy of these communications before drawing any conclusions.
“The circulation of names and claims online represents just one facet of the story,” he stated, reaffirming that the investigation will focus on factual evidence rather than speculation. He acknowledged the complexities involved in untangling existing networks related to these allegations, noting, “It’s not really easy, and we would like to untangle some of the networks that are already there. It requires both human intellect and technology to resolve and clarify this situation.”
In an effort to gather further information, the Commissioner revealed that investigators plan to speak with Alexandra Forwood to evaluate the extent of information she is willing to provide. He reassured the public that the officers implicated in the leaked conversations will continue their regular duties and indicated that no disciplinary action will be taken without credible and substantiated evidence.
This approach signifies the police force’s dedication to uphold integrity and transparency in their processes while addressing significant concerns, ensuring the rights of the involved officers are respected throughout the investigation.
