The Minister for Policing, Iowane Naivalurua, has urged new recruits of the Fiji Police Force to fully embrace the concept of “total policing.” He addressed this call during the Passing Out Parade for Batch 68 of the Basic Recruits Course at the Nasova Police Grounds, highlighting the vital role of service, discipline, and integrity in their duties.

Minister Naivalurua emphasized that joining the Fiji Police Force comes with significant responsibilities, stating, “You are joining the Fiji Police Force at a time that demands total policing.” He elaborated that total policing extends beyond standard working hours, entailing a commitment to go the extra mile in serving the community effectively.

Reinforcing the expectations from police officers, he referenced a recent reminder from the Prime Minister regarding the importance of professionalism, discipline, ethics, and a dedicated focus on service. These qualities are crucial as the landscape of modern policing continues to evolve.

“The demands placed on policing today go beyond training and tactics,” Minister Naivalurua remarked. “They require strength of character, inner discipline, resilience under pressure, and, at times, ultimate sacrifice.” He warned the recruits that they will be under scrutiny and emphasized the importance of earning and maintaining the trust and confidence of the public.

In closing, he delivered an inspiring message to the new officers, urging them to “serve with courage and confidence, act with restraint, lead with integrity, and protect without fear.” This call to excellence sets a positive tone for the recruits as they embark on their careers, reminding them of the profound impact they can have on their communities and the importance of their roles in maintaining peace and security in Fiji.
