The Minister for Policing, Iowane Naivalurua, has called upon new recruits of the Fiji Police Force to fully adopt the principle of “total policing.” This plea was made during the Passing Out Parade for Batch 68 of the Basic Recruits Course held at the Nasova Police Grounds, where he underscored the essential elements of service, discipline, and integrity that define their responsibilities.
Minister Naivalurua highlighted that joining the Fiji Police Force presents significant responsibilities, stating, “You are joining the Fiji Police Force at a time that demands total policing.” He explained that this concept implies a commitment that transcends beyond typical working hours, as officers must be dedicated to going the extra mile to effectively serve their communities.
Referencing a recent address by the Prime Minister, Naivalurua reinforced the high expectations placed on police officers, which include professionalism, discipline, ethics, and a focused commitment to service. These qualities are particularly vital in light of the evolving nature of modern policing.
“The demands placed on policing today go beyond training and tactics,” Minister Naivalurua remarked. “They require strength of character, inner discipline, resilience under pressure, and, at times, ultimate sacrifice.” He cautioned the recruits that they will be under constant scrutiny, stressing the need to earn and maintain the public’s trust and confidence.
In concluding his remarks, the Minister inspired the new officers to “serve with courage and confidence, act with restraint, lead with integrity, and protect without fear.” This inspiring call to excellence sets a hopeful and positive tone for the future careers of these recruits, reminding them of the significant impact they can have on their communities, and the crucial role they play in maintaining peace and security in Fiji.
