The Fiji Police Force is ramping up its operations as the festive season approaches, prioritizing public safety. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu announced a strategic shift this year, focusing on increasing officer visibility and establishing night checkpoints to maintain a secure environment for Fijians.
Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the significance of collaboration with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to tackle potential safety issues during both the festive and cyclone seasons. “We’ve changed our mode of operations and started early. You’ll see more officers on the ground, checkpoints at night, and joint work with the LTA,” he stated.
Highlighting the need for community involvement, Tudravu pointed out that the police cannot ensure safety on their own and called for proactive engagement from all stakeholders. This initiative mirrors previous efforts to bolster safety during peak times. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, had also stressed the importance of personal responsibility for safety, advising residents to be vigilant while participating in activities such as shopping, traveling, and outdoor leisure.
The increased police presence will be evident in urban settings, along highways, and at community spots, including schools and picnicking areas.
