The Fiji Police Force is poised to enhance public safety this festive season, having allocated $30.1 million and mobilizing over 5,100 officers throughout the nation. Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua stated that the force is well-equipped with the necessary personnel, funding, and technology to effectively tackle crime during this peak holiday period.

Naivalurua confirmed that the Fiji Police Force (FPF) is fully resourced for the busy holiday season, emphasizing their budget allocation specifically for operational support. The deployment comprises approximately one officer for every 187 citizens, with the manpower boosted by the recent intake of recruits bringing the total to 5,136 personnel.

The operational period officially commenced on December 15 and will extend until January 15, 2026. In preparation, divisional police commanders have conducted readiness checks to ensure all officers are properly equipped with essential gear such as handcuffs, capsicum spray, batons, and torches.

To further enhance their readiness, each police division has established a special 30-member team on 24-hour standby, available for emergency response in addition to routine duties. In support of national operations, the FPF has deployed 395 operational vehicles and installed CCTV cameras in high-risk areas, linking them directly to Police Coordination and Command Centres to monitor activities effectively.

In addition to technological advancements, police visibility has been significantly increased, with strategic checkpoints and enhanced patrols on foot, motorbikes, and by sea to oversee Fiji’s coastal areas and ensure community safety throughout the festive season.

Overall, these efforts reflect a strong commitment by the Fiji Police Force to create a safer environment for all citizens during a time traditionally marked by heightened social activities.
