Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has reaffirmed the Fiji Police Force’s dedication to conducting a comprehensive, objective, and evidence-based investigation into the recently circulated alleged leaked Viber messages on social media. These messages reportedly feature discussions between senior officers and individuals associated with drug-related activities, sparking significant public interest and scrutiny.
Commissioner Tudravu cautioned that the allegations presented in the messages have yet to be verified. He indicated that as authorities navigate new accusations involving a senior officer, it is essential to authenticate the source, context, and validity of the leaked communications before reaching any conclusions.
“The circulation of names and claims online represents just one facet of the story,” Tudravu noted, emphasizing that the investigation will concentrate on factual evidence rather than conjecture. He further acknowledged the challenges involved in unraveling existing networks connected to these allegations, stating, “It’s not really easy, and we would like to untangle some of the networks that are already there. It requires both human intellect and technology to resolve and clarify this situation.”
The Commissioner also revealed that investigators plan to obtain a statement from Alexandra Forwood to ascertain the depth of information she is willing to share. He urged the public to remember that officers named in the leaked conversations will proceed with their regular duties, asserting that no disciplinary action will be taken without credible and corroborated evidence substantiating the claims put forth in the leaked messages.
This commitment to a fact-based investigation highlights the police force’s intent to maintain integrity and transparency as they work to address a troubling situation while safeguarding the rights of officers involved.
