Five men have been apprehended in Kadavu after police intercepted a fibreglass boat laden with large bags of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana. The operation followed a tip-off regarding the transport of these alleged illegal substances. The men, along with the seized items, are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, highlighted the significance of community cooperation in these successful operations and encouraged continued public support in the fight against drug trafficking. Emphasizing that the focus remains steadfast on both green (marijuana) and white (methamphetamine) drugs, Vusonilawe urged the public to report any relevant information through Crimestoppers or directly to police officials.
In another development, two individuals have been charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine and were produced in court. A 35-year-old man was caught with methamphetamine at a roadblock, while a 29-year-old was found with the drug separately on the same day.
The ongoing operations demonstrate the police force’s commitment to curbing drug-related activities across the region. Authorities have reiterated their dedication to continued vigilance and community engagement as crucial components in tackling the drug menace. They have also reassured the public of their continued efforts through Operation Sasamaki, which remains active across all five policing divisions.
These developments underline the significant progress in the war on drugs in Fiji, with law enforcement agencies relying heavily on public support and information sharing to make substantial inroads against illegal drug trade. The police have expressed readiness to maintain rigorous operations while fostering collaboration with the community to ensure safer environments.
