The investigation into the verification of Viber messages involving police officers in Fiji has entered a new phase, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa. The first stage of this investigation has been completed, focusing primarily on digital analysis using internationally recognized mobile forensic tools, and is backed by collaboration with foreign law enforcement partners.

ACP Waqa noted that while the first phase involved thorough examinations of devices, the investigation is now advancing into its second phase. This upcoming phase will delve into inquiries with financial institutions and service providers to gather more insights related to the case.

Addressing concerns about delays in obtaining statements from an overseas witness, ACP Waqa clarified that these were due to compliance requirements related to jurisdiction. A Fijian police officer is scheduled to travel to Australia in early January 2026 to secure this statement. He emphasized that the Fiji Police Force remains in continuous communication with the Australian Federal Police concerning the ongoing investigation.

“This is a multifaceted investigation involving various local and international agencies,” ACP Waqa stated, underscoring the complexity of the case. He expressed commitment to a thorough and transparent investigation, reflecting the dedication of Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu to uncovering the truth behind the allegations made.

This investigation represents a significant step toward accountability and transparency within the police force, illustrating a commitment to uphold justice and dignity in the law enforcement sector.
