The Fiji Police Force has responded to the online circulation of a video depicting an accident, clarifying that the footage does not originate from a routine traffic checkpoint, as has been widely reported. Instead, the incident took place at the site of a fatal accident in Talenaua last month.
According to police officials, officers were actively working to clear the road when the collision occurred. The bus involved in the accident had slowed down as it neared the scene, but unfortunately, a lapse in driver concentration resulted in the crash.
In the video, the police officer visible was not conducting traffic checks but was instead directing vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. This clarification highlights the importance of understanding the context of such incidents.
The Fiji Police Force is now emphasizing the need for public cooperation at accident and crime scenes, stressing that such collaboration is essential for ensuring safety and enabling emergency response operations to proceed without disruption. By working together, the community can help maintain order during challenging situations, ultimately benefiting everyone’s safety.
