The Fiji Police Force has successfully concluded a major crackdown operation across the Central and Southern Divisions, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals on September 23rd. Led by the Serious Organised Crime & Intelligence Department (SOCID), in collaboration with the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU), Police Mobile Force (PMF), and the Fiji Immigration Department, the operation targeted multiple locations, including properties in Flagstaff and Rewa Street.
During these raids, law enforcement officers apprehended one Fijian and six foreign nationals. The investigation led to the discovery of methamphetamine, confirmed by the Fiji Police Forensics Science Services. Authorities also seized large quantities of local and foreign currencies, believed to be proceeds from criminal activities. The suspects are currently undergoing intensive interrogation as investigations continue.
In line with ongoing anti-drug efforts across Fiji, similar operations are being conducted in the Western Division. More details are expected to emerge as these operations progress. The crackdown reflects a sustained endeavor by the Fiji Police to tackle organized crime, especially drug trafficking, which has been a persistent issue in areas like Raiwai and Namara.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has emphasized the police’s commitment to eradicating organized crime networks and ensuring the safety of the community. These efforts highlight the proactive stance of law enforcement in disrupting criminal activities that threaten the well-being of Fijians. Such decisive actions not only aim to bring offenders to justice but also serve as a warning to potential criminals, fostering a safer environment for the public.
With continued vigilance and strategic operations, the Fiji Police Force remains resolute in safeguarding communities from the adverse impacts of organized crime, while instilling a sense of hope and security among the people of Fiji.
