Seven individuals have been apprehended following an extensive crackdown operation executed by the Fiji Police Force across Central and Southern Divisions on September 23rd. This comprehensive operation was orchestrated by the Serious Organised Crime & Intelligence Department (SOCID), in partnership with the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU), Police Mobile Force (PMF), and the Fiji Immigration Department.
The authorities detained one Fijian national along with six foreign nationals during the raids, which were carried out at several locations including properties in Flagstaff and Rewa Street. These operations led to the discovery and subsequent confirmation of methamphetamine by the Fiji Police Forensics Science Services. Moreover, significant amounts of local and foreign currencies, suspected to be illicit gains from criminal endeavors, were also seized.
The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated as the investigations advance. Furthermore, similar operations are reportedly ongoing in the Western Division, with additional information expected to be disclosed soon.
This event fits into a broader context of continued anti-drug efforts by the Fiji Police Force. Previous operations in areas like Raiwai and Namara have shown similar patterns where drugs such as methamphetamine and various currencies have been confiscated, proving the persistence of organized crime in these regions. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has been actively communicating the determination of the police to eradicate organized crime and ensure public safety, indicating ongoing and future coordinated efforts across all divisions.
These initiatives highlight law enforcement’s unwavering resolve to curb criminal activities significantly affecting local communities. Such proactive approaches not only aim at arresting offenders but serve as a deterrent to future crimes, offering hope for enhanced safety and security for the Fijian populace.
