Fiji Police Constable Wins Pacific Region Award for Women’s Empowerment in Policing

Fijian Police Constable Susana Ligaqaqa has been honored with the “Excellence in Law Enforcement in the Pacific Region Award” at the Australasian Council of Women and Policing Awards held in Melbourne. This distinguished award celebrates her exceptional contributions to community policing and her pivotal role in establishing crime prevention committees. These initiatives not only bolster community safety but also empower women, reflecting her commitment to fostering a supportive environment in the Nayavu Community Post.

Constable Ligaqaqa’s career with the Fiji Police Force began in 2005 as a Special Constable, before she was appointed as a regular officer in 2020. Her contributions highlight a sustained dedication to improving the safety and well-being of her community. In addition to Ligaqaqa’s accolade, five other members of the Fiji Police Force were recognized as finalists, highlighting the collective impact and commitment of Fijian officers in law enforcement.

Expressing appreciation for the recognition, Ligaqaqa dedicated her award to her colleagues, family, and the community. She emphasized the importance of self-belief, urging women and young girls to perform their duties with dignity and to uphold their faith. Her empowering message echoes the achievements of peers like Police Constable Sadamma, underscoring the ongoing progress towards gender equality within the police force.

This award illustrates the transformative role of women in law enforcement, symbolizing a shift towards greater inclusivity in a field historically dominated by men. Ligaqaqa’s recognition not only marks a personal milestone but also serves as an inspiration for future female officers and the larger community. It demonstrates that with determination and support, women can lead successfully in diverse roles. This achievement marks an important stride toward gender equality in policing, encouraging more women to pursue such careers confidently, thereby fostering a progressive future for law enforcement and community relations.
