Jone Tuitabu, captain of the Fiji Police Force boxing team, is moving up to the heavyweight category from cruiserweight for this year’s Sukuna Bowl competition. This significant transition reflects his development and growing confidence as a boxer. Tuitabu started his boxing journey with the Police team in 2019 and has shown consistent commitment in his preparations leading up to the competition.
Despite the new challenge of competing in a higher weight class, Tuitabu is optimistic. He stated, “Nothing much has changed in our preparations, and it’s not new for me to play up in a category. I believe I have reached a level of the game that whatever weight I’m told to play in I can play.” He is determined to lead his team to retain their overall title in this year’s event.
The boxing matches will begin on Monday, with weigh-ins scheduled for 6 AM at the Nakasi Police Station, followed by the event starting at 4 PM. The Sukuna Bowl not only showcases boxing talent but also celebrates the spirit of competition and sportsmanship among rival forces.
In addition to boxing, the competition will feature men’s soccer and rugby matches later in the week, with broadcasts available for fans both locally and overseas. The anticipation surrounding the event emphasizes not just the athletic performances, but also the community spirit it fosters. As spectators and supporters look forward to the matches, there is a hopeful energy that the competition will bring people together while promoting fitness and camaraderie in Fiji.
