A recent operation conducted collaboratively by the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service has resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old man, alongside three accomplices, for their involvement in the unlawful importation of cocaine. The primary suspect, who holds the position of General Manager, is facing serious charges under Section 5(b) of the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004.
The case came to light when a suspicious consignment, labeled as a “Smoke Machine,” arrived in Fiji from Brazil on October 27, 2025. Thanks to quick action from authorities, the package was flagged by a Drug Detector Dog during inspection. Upon thorough examination, officers uncovered 640 grams of a white powdered substance, which was later confirmed to be cocaine.
On October 30, a controlled delivery operation led to the seizure of a vehicle in a company parking lot where the primary suspect and two others were intercepted. Another individual was also taken in for questioning about the incident.
After conducting interviews, formal charges were brought against the 40-year-old suspect, whereas the other three individuals were released after consultation with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The main suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court at the Suva Magistrates Court soon.
This incident is a part of a larger trend in Fiji, where law enforcement is intensifying efforts to tackle drug trafficking. Recent reports indicate a concerning rise in drug-related offenses, prompting numerous arrests across various operations.
