The former head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Loraini Seru, has received a promotion, becoming the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and will now lead the Internal Affairs and Professional Standards Unit. This significant advancement was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, following recommendations from a dedicated promotion board that included both internal and external members to ensure a fair and merit-based process.

Commissioner Tudravu celebrated this milestone, noting that ACP Seru is the first female officer to ascend to the rank of Assistant Commissioner. He expressed hope that her appointment would serve as an inspiration to other women officers and young girls interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement. While highlighting existing policies to support women in the police force, he emphasized that all promotions should remain merit-driven, urging female officers to seize available opportunities.

ACP Seru, who traces her roots to Tonia village in Tailevu and has maternal links to Rewasa, Rakiraki in Ra, is a distinguished graduate of the FBI Academy in the United States. She began her policing career in 1995, serving in both the Western and Central Divisions before joining the CID Headquarters in Toorak. Her career includes a significant role as the first officer seconded to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) from 2006 to 2010 and a two-year deployment in Liberia. In 2020, she was appointed Deputy Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Women Advisory Network and was recognized as the Policewoman of the Year at the 2022 Fiji Police Women Excellence Awards.

ACP Seru has further enhanced her professional qualifications with Certificates from the Australian Institute of Police Management in Sydney, as well as specialized training in Anti-Money Laundering and Fraud in Korea and New Zealand. She encourages fellow women officers to explore and enter fields traditionally dominated by men, highlighting the various opportunities within the Fiji Police Force as a beacon for aspiring female officers.
