Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has shared that President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu recently held fruitful discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, focusing on global initiatives to promote peace and stability in the Middle East. During a recent parliamentary session, Rabuka expressed his pleasure upon receiving a phone call from the President, who reported on the positive developments stemming from their high-level meetings in the UAE.
In these discussions, the Fijian President emphasized the supportive stance taken by UAE officials toward Fiji, particularly in relation to the country’s involvement in international peacekeeping missions. Rabuka highlighted this engagement as a testament to Fiji’s unwavering commitment to contributing to peace and security in the Middle East, drawing on Fiji’s long-standing tradition of participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
This announcement arrives at a vital juncture, as the United Arab Emirates, alongside Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, prepares to send approximately 200 peacekeeping troops to Gaza City. These forces aim to support the newly established ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, following years of conflict that has created a dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, subsequent to extensive negotiations by international and regional mediators.
