Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is set to embark on an official visit to Japan this week, invited by the Japanese government to enhance the enduring friendship between the two nations. This visit is particularly noteworthy as it provides an opportunity for Rabuka to meet with Japan’s newly elected female Prime Minister, Ms. Takaichi Sanae, following her historic election last month.
A key highlight of the trip will be a bilateral meeting where both leaders are anticipated to sign the Lomavata-Kizuna Partnership Joint Communique. This agreement is designed to strengthen the partnership between Fiji and Japan, focusing on crucial areas such as climate resilience, economic development, technology, and cultural exchanges.
During his time in Japan, Prime Minister Rabuka will also engage with the Fijian diaspora, sharing updates on Fiji’s national development priorities and recent achievements. The diplomatic ties between Fiji and Japan have flourished since their establishment in 1970, with notable collaborations in sectors like infrastructure, education, and health.
Rabuka is scheduled to depart for Japan tonight and is expected to return on November 16, 2025. In his absence, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, will step in as Acting Prime Minister.
This visit offers a significant opportunity for both leaders to strengthen their longstanding relationship and address mutual challenges, fostering greater collaboration for a stable and prosperous future in the Pacific region.
