Fiji's First Major Data Center to Kick Off in 2026

Fiji Plans 2026 Data Center to Boost Pacific Connectivity

Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) has revealed plans to launch the construction of its first significant data center in 2026, a project anticipated to take approximately 24 months to complete. Shalvin Narayan, TFL’s head of ICT, shared details about this pivotal development during the 2025 EXTRA Fiji Architecture Conference and Trade Exhibition held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf Resort and Spa in Nadi.

The data center is designed to be a large-scale facility that will not only benefit Fiji but also significantly enhance the technological landscape of the entire Pacific region. Narayan highlighted the extensive design process that preceded the project, emphasizing the comprehensive assessment of vital factors such as environmental impact and power supply. He remarked, “We have gone through a full design cycle since it’s a very large facility first for Fiji and the region.”

Although the financial specifics of the project were not disclosed, as this will be determined by TFL’s finance team, the emphasis on the data center illustrates its importance in advancing the digital infrastructure of Fiji.

This announcement follows other major investments aimed at strengthening Fiji’s telecommunications system, such as a $10 million initiative for a 102-kilometer fiber cable project across Vanua Levu. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka noted that these developments facilitate greater access to digital opportunities, particularly for remote communities.

Further initiatives to enhance Fiji’s digital framework include the upcoming Pacific Fiber Conference 2025, organized by TFL, which aims to gather telecom leaders and technology providers to explore strategies for improving connectivity across the Pacific Islands. These collective efforts paint a promising picture for Fiji’s digital future, with the potential to drive economic growth and enhance the living standards of its residents.
