Fiji Pinktober Moment: Resort’s Major Gesture in the Cancer Fight

The Radisson Blu Resort Fiji at Denarau Island has made a significant contribution to breast cancer awareness and research, donating $10,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society as part of their activities for Pinktober, the annual breast cancer awareness month. This generous donation was announced following a well-attended walkathon that served to both raise vital funds and spread awareness about breast cancer in Fiji.

During the donation presentation, Petero Manufolau, the resort’s marketing and sales director, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the resort’s guests and staff for their support in fundraising efforts. He acknowledged the vital work carried out by the Fiji Cancer Society in promoting early detection and aiding cancer patients across the nation. The donation was handed over to Margie Erbsleben, a board member of the Fiji Cancer Society in Nadi, highlighting a collaborative approach to combatting the disease.

The event featured a moving speech from Mere Watisoni, a stage 3 cervical cancer survivor. She shared her personal journey and emphasized the critical importance of early screening, making a powerful appeal for the community to prioritize health checks as a means to save lives. Her compelling message serves as a reminder that cancer can affect anyone, yet early intervention can significantly improve outcomes.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts within the Fijian community, where various entities, including hotels and businesses, have also participated in fundraising and awareness campaigns during October. For example, several hotels in Suva, such as the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn, collectively raised approximately $10,000 through a series of community events focused on supporting cancer care.

The Radisson Blu’s commitment not only reflects their dedication to social responsibility but also reinforces the importance of collaboration within local businesses and organizations to effect positive change. These collective efforts not only yield financial support for cancer initiatives but also foster a spirit of unity and compassion among Fijians, emphasizing that through combined endeavors, substantial progress can be made in the fight against cancer.
