The Fiji Cancer Society has received a noteworthy donation of $10,000 from the Tanoa Hotel Group, marking the beginning of Pinktober, a month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer in Fiji. This significant contribution was announced during a Pinktober walk organized by the Tanoa Hotel Group at MySuva Park. The longstanding bond between Tanoa Hotel Group and the Fiji Cancer Society was highlighted by Narend Kumar, the group’s area General Manager.
Since 2015, the Reddy Foundation, the charitable division of Tanoa Group, has supported diverse health, education, poverty alleviation, and disaster relief initiatives throughout Fiji and the Pacific. Kumar emphasized the crucial importance of early cancer detection, citing breast cancer as a prevalent threat to women in the region, including countries like Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, and the broader Pacific. He remarked that early detection plays a vital role in saving lives.
Belinda Chan, Chief Executive of the Fiji Cancer Society, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Tanoa’s steadfast support, recognizing its significance, especially during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic. The support from Tanoa has enabled the society to continue its essential work, providing direct support to patients and their families through necessary provisions, medical supplies, and the development of new facilities.
The Pinktober event attracted families, friends, and cancer survivors, initiating a month-long focus on breast cancer awareness in Fiji. Similar efforts by other organizations, including Telecom Fiji and various local hotels, have showcased the community’s determination to fight cancer by generating funds and enhancing awareness.
