Parliament staff are being urged to maintain their unity and focus as they enter a pivotal final phase of the current parliamentary term. This encouragement was expressed by Secretary-General Jeanette Emberson during the launch of the inaugural SG Hour of 2026, a staff forum dedicated to discussing essential workplace priorities, recognizing individual contributions, and outlining Parliament’s institutional direction.

In her address, Emberson highlighted that the responsibilities of Parliament staff go beyond traditional administrative duties, presenting their roles as critical to serving both God and the citizens of Fiji. She stressed that their work is foundational to the democratic governance of the nation, asserting, “The work we do in Parliament is not simply administrative; it is the backbone of democratic governance in Fiji. Every report prepared, every committee supported, and every system maintained strengthens the transparency and accountability our citizens rightly expect.”

Emberson expressed her gratitude for the commitment and professionalism exhibited by staff over the past year, acknowledging their hard work that ensures the smooth operation of legislative processes and committee activities. She cautioned, however, that as the parliamentary term comes to a close, staff should prepare for an increase in demands, with heightened legislative activity and higher expectations from both Members of Parliament and the public.

“As we near the end of the Parliamentary term, demands will intensify, legislative work will accelerate, committees will be busier than ever, and expectations from Members and the public will peak,” she remarked. Emberson called upon her team to remain resolute and committed, advocating for a collaborative effort in the upcoming months to uphold the dignity, transparency, and accountability representing Fiji’s Parliament.

This rallying message not only underlines the essential role of parliamentary staff but also highlights their significant contributions to democratic governance in Fiji, fostering a positive outlook as they gear up for an active final term.
