The People’s Alliance Party (PAP) has firmly denounced the spread of false information, especially regarding the safety and well-being of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and other national figures. The condemnation comes in light of a recent Facebook post that wrongly claimed the Prime Minister had sustained injuries from a stone-throwing incident outside his office. The party has categorically stated that this claim is unfounded and constitutes outright misinformation.

PAP General Secretary Sila Balawa asserted that Prime Minister Rabuka was never harmed or involved in any such event, characterizing the allegations as entirely fabricated. He highlighted the need for public caution against engaging with and sharing misleading information.

“We are deeply concerned by the deliberate spread of false information that has the potential to cause unnecessary alarm, confusion, and public anxiety,” Balawa remarked. With an election year approaching in Fiji, he expressed worry that the frequency of politically charged misinformation will likely rise, aimed at misleading the public.

The PAP encourages the public to consult verified and official news sources to maintain trust and stability in the community. They are advocating for citizens to avoid forwarding unverified reports that compromise public confidence.

As misinformation continues to undermine trust in political dialogue, it is imperative for the community to engage with information sensibly, ensuring that credible content is shared. By prioritizing accurate information, citizens can contribute to a more informed and stable society.
