Starting tomorrow, Fijians will have the opportunity to express their views on proposed changes to electricity tariffs in a public consultation that will last for 21 days. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is encouraging participation from citizens across the nation, highlighting the profound impact that electricity prices have on households, businesses, and communities.
To promote active engagement, the FCCC will organize in-person consultation sessions where consumers can ask questions, raise concerns, and gain insight into how the proposed tariff changes could influence their electricity bills. For those who cannot attend these sessions, the Commission provides alternatives for submitting written feedback or participating in an online survey throughout the consultation period.
In a bid to enable the public to make informed contributions, the FCCC has released a non-confidential version of Energy Fiji Limited’s tariff submission on its website. They have also introduced an Electricity Bill Comparison Calculator, which will help consumers estimate potential changes to their monthly bills based on the proposed tariff adjustments.
The FCCC encourages participation from a wide array of stakeholders, including domestic consumers, advocacy groups, businesses, governmental entities, political representatives, social organizations, and young individuals. They underscore the importance of public input in ensuring that decisions regarding electricity tariffs are fair, transparent, and considerate of the real impacts on the Fijian population.
Details regarding consultation dates, locations, and submission methods are available on the FCCC website. The first consultation session will be held tomorrow at a venue near the Civic Centre in Labasa Town from 10 am to 3 pm, representing a significant opportunity for community involvement on an issue that affects every Fijian household. Active participation in this consultative process can foster a more equitable energy pricing system and better-informed decision-making for all Fijians.
