According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the disturbance is currently moving slowly between the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu and is expected to shift southeastward, entering Fiji waters on Tuesday and moving out through the Lau Group by Wednesday.
A heavy rain alert has been issued for the entire Fiji Group, while flash flood alerts are in effect for low-lying, flood-prone areas and small streams. The active trough of low pressure associated with TD03F has already begun impacting the country, leading to cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall. With the ground saturated from prior precipitation, the additional heavy rainfall is likely to spark flash flooding, particularly in vulnerable low-lying locations and areas downstream of major rivers.
The frequency of rain is predicted to increase as the disturbance approaches from the west, affecting the entirety of Fiji by Wednesday. This situation raises concerns over flooding risks for major rivers, roads, and crossings, potentially disrupting transportation, business operations, and access to essential services.
In addition to heavy rainfall, strong winds are anticipated starting Tuesday, with forecasts indicating gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour affecting parts of Vanua Levu, Viti Levu, as well as the Yasawa, Mamanuca, northern Lau, and Lomaiviti Groups. Mariners are warned to prepare for northeast winds of 15 to 20 knots, which could escalate to 30 knots with gusts reaching 40 knots, resulting in moderate to rough sea conditions and limited visibility during heavy rains and thunderstorms.
