Two former officers from Fiji’s Counter Narcotics Bureau are scheduled to face charges of abuse of office in Suva Magistrates Court, following an investigation by the Major Crime Unit and in coordination with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Each officer faces one charge.
Allegations indicate that from January 2023 to December 2024, one of the officers engaged in unauthorized financial dealings, resulting in gains surpassing $22,000. In tandem, the same 47-year-old officer reportedly received corrupt benefits linked to these transactions. Additionally, in July 2024, this officer is accused of leaking official investigation documents to an unauthorized party, jeopardizing the Fiji Police Force’s integrity.
In response, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has ordered the suspension of the officers involved, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining accountability and integrity within the force.
