Fiji National University (FNU) kicked off its three-day December graduation ceremony at the Vodafone Arena, celebrating a significant milestone for hundreds of students. This year’s event is particularly noteworthy as it honors four PhD graduates, a first for the university’s December conferral.
The new doctoral graduates hail from diverse fields, including the Colleges of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies; Engineering and Technical Vocational Education; as well as Humanities, Education, and Law. Their achievements reflect the university’s expanding research capabilities and its dedication to fostering local talent.
In his address to the graduates, renowned former sevens rugby star Waisale Serevi imparted wisdom by stating, “education is not only what you know, it is who you become.” He encouraged the graduates to blend modern learning with traditional knowledge as they navigate the complexities of a changing world.
FNU’s vice-chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, expressed immense pride in the graduates’ accomplishments, highlighting how these achievements bolster Fiji’s human capital. For many, the graduation marks not just an end but a hopeful new beginning, as they take steps to make meaningful contributions to their communities and nation in the future.
