Tourism Fiji has announced the appointment of Dr. Paresh Pant as its new Chief Executive Officer, a pivotal development for the nation’s tourism sector. Taking over the role this week, Dr. Pant expressed optimism about the future of Fiji’s tourism industry, which has shown resilience and steady growth. From January through September this year, Fiji welcomed 735,154 visitors, marking a slight increase of 0.3 percent compared to the same time last year.
In September alone, the country received 92,344 visitors, generating approximately $320 million in tourism revenue, with holidaymakers making up 82 percent of total arrivals. These statistics suggest a robust rebound in tourism, highlighting the sector’s critical role in the national economy.
Addressing the challenges faced by the industry, Dr. Pant emphasized the necessity for collaboration and adaptability in overcoming obstacles. He stated, “Success will depend on our ability to work together, stay prepared, and remain agile. My focus is on delivering value, driving results, and ensuring every decision contributes to the long-term growth of Fiji’s tourism industry.”
The potential for growth is further buoyed by Fiji’s recent recognition as one of National Geographic’s 25 Best of the World destinations for 2026, showcasing the country’s breathtaking natural scenery and commitment to sustainable tourism practices. Dr. Pant aims to foster partnerships within the sector and create unique experiences that reflect Fiji’s vibrant culture and attractiveness to international travelers.
His leadership transition follows the notable tenure of former CEO Brent Hill, who successfully increased visitor numbers and implemented creative marketing strategies that prioritized sustainability and community involvement. Dr. Pant’s appointment is viewed as a natural progression, poised to build on this positive momentum.
With over 25 years of experience in tourism, hospitality, and aviation across Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand, Dr. Pant brings a strategic vision that will adeptly navigate the dynamic tourism landscape. His return to Tourism Fiji, where he previously held significant roles, heralds a hopeful outlook aimed at enhancing Fiji’s global brand and fostering inclusive growth benefiting local communities and stakeholders.
Dr. Pant’s leadership is anticipated to signal a new era for Tourism Fiji, encouraging innovative sustainable tourism practices and reinforcing the nation’s appeal as a premier destination for travelers globally.
