Fiji Mourns Public Service Leader Ratu Isoa Talemaibua

The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Fiji has announced the passing of Ratu Isoa Talemaibua, a revered figure in the country’s civil service leadership. PSC chairman, Luke Rokovada, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing Ratu Isoa’s significant contributions during his extensive career, which began in 2009 and continued until his recent passing.

In his career, Ratu Isoa held several crucial positions, most recently serving as the Permanent Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management from 2023 to 2025. Prior to this role, he was the Head of Budget and Planning at the Ministry of Finance from 2018 to 2023, and he also served as Acting Chief Economic Planning Officer in the Budget Division’s Expenditure Management Unit from 2016 to 2018.

Rokovada praised Ratu Isoa for his leadership skills, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he was instrumental in overseeing essential government policy mandates. His efforts were vital in the successful implementation of programs such as food ration distributions, the Unemployment Benefit Assistance program, and the General Practitioner Scheme, all of which provided critical support to Fiji’s vulnerable populations.

Known for his collegial spirit and warm personality, Ratu Isoa was also a cherished member of the Permanent Secretary Forum, where he left a lasting impression on his colleagues. His passing is not only a personal loss for those who knew him but also marks a significant point in Fiji’s history due to his indelible mark on public service leadership.

The PSC and its chairman have extended heartfelt condolences to Ratu Isoa’s family, including his wife, Mrs. Taraivini Senirewa Qiowasa Talemaibua, and their children, as they navigate this difficult time. Ratu Isoa’s legacy as a leader in civil service is irreplaceable, and he will be remembered as a dedicated public servant who contributed significantly to the betterment of the nation.
