The Fiji Police Force is taking proactive measures to bolster public safety during the upcoming festive season, with a budget of $30.1 million and the mobilization of over 5,100 officers across the country. Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua assures the community that the force is well-equipped with sufficient personnel, funding, and technology to effectively manage crime during this busy holiday period.

Naivalurua highlighted the full resourcing of the Fiji Police Force (FPF), ensuring dedicated operational support through a robust budget allocation. The police deployment entails approximately one officer for every 187 citizens, with the recent intake of recruits bringing the total number of personnel to 5,136.

The police operational period began on December 15 and will continue until January 15, 2026. In preparation, divisional police commanders have conducted thorough readiness assessments, ensuring that all officers are adequately equipped with essential gear, including handcuffs, capsicum spray, batons, and torches.

To enhance their emergency response capabilities, each police division has formed a specialized 30-member team that will remain on 24-hour standby in addition to their regular duties. Furthermore, the FPF has deployed 395 operational vehicles and installed CCTV cameras in high-risk areas, which are directly linked to Police Coordination and Command Centres for effective monitoring.

The visibility of police presence has also been significantly increased, with strategic checkpoints and enhanced patrols conducted on foot, motorbikes, and by sea. This initiative aims to oversee Fiji’s coastal areas and ensure community safety during the festive season.

These comprehensive measures underscore the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to fostering a safer environment for all citizens during a time characterized by increased social activities, reflecting a proactive approach to maintaining peace and security throughout the holiday period.
