A formal complaint has been submitted seeking the reinstatement of Dr. Peggy Ravusiro as Fiji’s representative at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, emphasizing her eligibility according to pageant regulations. The complaint, addressed to Acting Prime Minister Filimoni Vosarogo, urges government action for an independent review of the Miss Fiji Pageant committee’s governance and contractual practices.

In the letter, issues were raised regarding potential breaches of good faith, failure to meet contractual obligations, discriminatory treatment of women, and a lack of proper oversight within the pageant organization. Mr. Vosarogo acknowledged receipt of the complaint, stating, “I have received the letter of complaint. A decision will be made soon on the complaint.”

Accompanying the complaint were the Rules and Regulations of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, which stipulate that only winners of their national pageants are eligible to compete. Dr. Ravusiro, who won the national title, was controversially replaced by first runner-up Ailava Samuels, prompting questions about the legality and transparency of this decision.

The complainants have called on the Acting Prime Minister to ensure adherence to pageant rules and advocate for Dr. Ravusiro’s reinstatement, pending a lawful and transparent investigation. This situation has shed light on broader concerns regarding governance, accountability, and fairness within national pageant committees, prompting calls for better oversight and the protection of contestants’ rights.

The outcome of this complaint may lead to important changes in the governance of pageants in Fiji, fostering an environment of transparency and fairness for future contestants.
