The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is taking significant steps to address a serious breach of conduct after uncovering a mobile phone allegedly used to transmit sensitive information to drug trafficking organizations. Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai disclosed these alarming developments during the recent End-of-Year Parade, indicating the high stakes involved.

Upon learning of a mobile phone number associated with the illicit sharing of crucial operational details with external criminal entities, Major-General Kalouniwai promptly ordered an investigation. The implicated mobile device has been seized, and the RFMF personnel involved have been questioned and placed on leave to facilitate an independent inquiry free from any potential bias.

The Commander reiterated the RFMF’s strict zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal activities within its ranks. “This sends a strong message: we cannot take matters into our own hands, and any participation in unlawful actions will be dealt with firmly,” he asserted. This declaration highlights the military’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and security.

The RFMF’s proactive approach to addressing misconduct not only reinforces its dedication to maintaining order but also safeguards against the encroachment of criminal influences. This initiative signifies an ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability within the military, with hopes that such rigorous measures will deter future violations and bolster public trust in the armed forces. The actions taken by the RFMF demonstrate a serious dedication to maintaining the ethical conduct necessary for operational effectiveness and public confidence.
