The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is taking decisive action after discovering a mobile phone purportedly used to relay sensitive information to drug trafficking syndicates. Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai announced this development during the End-of-Year Parade, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Major-General Kalouniwai explained that he ordered an investigation when he became aware of a mobile number linked to the sharing of critical operational details with external criminal organizations. The mobile device has been confiscated, and the RFMF personnel involved has been questioned and subsequently placed on leave to ensure an independent investigation can be conducted without interference.

The Commander emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward any illegal activities among the ranks of the RFMF. “This sends a strong message: we cannot take matters into our own hands, and any participation in unlawful actions will be dealt with firmly,” he stated, underlining the commitment of the forces to uphold integrity and security within their operations.

This proactive stance against misconduct reinforces the RFMF’s dedication to maintaining order and safeguarding against criminal influences and demonstrates an ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in the military ranks. The hope is that such measures will deter any future breaches and strengthen the trust of the public in the armed forces.
