Fiji Meth Seizure Near $1 Million Sparks Multi-City Drug Crackdown

Authorities in Fiji have successfully seized what is believed to be methamphetamine, valued at nearly $1 million, during coordinated raids in Suva, Nadi, and Viseisei, Lautoka. This significant operation, confirmed by sources to The Fiji Times, resulted in the arrests of several Asian nationals, all women, during the raids conducted in Suva and Lautoka. The raids were part of a collaborative effort by the Fiji Police Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Department, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Police Mobile Force, and the Fiji Immigration Department.

In addition to the drugs, large amounts of both foreign and local currencies were also confiscated, further highlighting the widespread nature of this illicit operation. The police have indicated that further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.

This operation underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Fiji, a growing concern as the country has witnessed several major drug busts recently, particularly involving methamphetamine, commonly referred to as ice. Earlier this year, significant seizures in Legalega and Maqalevu, Nadi, involved tonnes of methamphetamine and other substances.

These incidents reflect the broader issue of drug trafficking in the region and highlight the dedication of Fiji Police in combating this menace. The authorities’ proactive stance and collaborative approach with various enforcement units demonstrate a promising stride towards ensuring safety and reducing drug-related crimes in the community. With continued efforts and support from the community, Fiji aims to sustain and amplify its crackdown on drug distribution, enhancing the safety and well-being of its citizens.
