Joshua Ravula, alongside Chinese national Yin Qing Qing, is scheduled to enter their pleas on April 3rd after being remanded in custody following a police drug raid. The two appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza at the Suva Magistrates Court, facing charges of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and possession of property suspected to be derived from proceeds of crime.
The accused are linked to an incident that allegedly took place in September in Flagstaff, where police discovered methamphetamine during a coordinated operation. Qing Qing, who required a translator during the hearing, had the charges formally read to her in court.
Magistrate Hamza noted that a decision regarding their bail status will be made at the next court date. Until then, both individuals remain in custody.
This case is emblematic of a broader trend of increased law enforcement action against drug offenses within Fiji, particularly regarding methamphetamine-related activities.
